Rowe Campus Consolidation
Bringing Our School Community Together at 1424 N. Cleaver!
Rowe Elementary is applying for approval to bring all students and staff together on one campus beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. This page is designed to share what this change means, why it’s happening, and how we’re working with families and the community every step of the way.
ā
We value your questions and feedback and look forward to continuing the conversation.
ā
Why is Rowe Elementary consolidating?
Like many schools, Rowe has experienced a decline in enrollment over recent years. Operating two separate buildings is no longer necessary and creates challenges for students, families, and staff. By consolidating all grades (K-8) into one location, we can use our resources more effectively and focus on what matters most, supporting students.
ā
What does consolidation mean?
All students will attend school at 1424 N. Cleaver, where grades 5-8 are currently located. Students in grades K-4 who currently attend the Augusta Boulevard campus will move to the Cleaver campus.
ā
How many students will attend the Cleaver campus?
After consolidation, total enrollment is projected to be no more than 550 students, which is well within the building’s capacity and below Rowe’s historical peak enrollment.
Importantly, class sizes will not exceed 25 students.
ā
How will this benefit students and families?
Consolidating into one campus allows us to:
-
Simplify daily routines with one drop-off and pick-up location
-
Bring services and supports together in one place
-
Improve access to mental health services, after-school programs, and enrichment opportunities
-
Create a more connected, supportive school environment for students across all grade levels
By being together in one building, staff can collaborate more easily and provide more consistent support to students and families.
ā
What about student safety and traffic?
We know traffic and neighborhood impact are important concerns. Having one campus will allow for a more organized and predictable arrival and dismissal process.
ā
To help minimize congestion and keep everyone safe, we are committed to:
-
Exploring staggered arrival and dismissal times
-
Encouraging walking and biking when possible
-
Working closely with the City of Chicago and local officials
-
Improving school zone signage and traffic management
We will continue listening to residents and families and adjusting plans as needed.
ā
Will staff or services change?
Consolidation allows for better coordination of staff and services, not fewer supports. Students will continue to have access to wraparound services, including mental health supports through Northwestern Settlement’s Family CARES Community Mental Health Center, as well as after-school programming and other essential resources.
ā
How will this affect my child’s day?
For most families, the biggest change will be attending school at a single location for all grades K-8. This will streamline daily routines while giving students easier access to services, programs, and support throughout the school day.
ā
How will Rowe support a smooth transition?
Northwestern Settlement and Rowe Elementary are committed to ongoing communication and collaboration. We will continue to share updates, host meetings, and provide opportunities to share feedback as we move forward. Your input matters, and we want to hear from you.
