For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, members of Northwestern Settlement’s North Shore Board gathered with children enrolled in the Settlement’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program for an advance celebration of Mother’s Day on a sunny, beautiful Wednesday, May 10. Board members wrapped a variety of fun gifts, which the toddlers then perused to pick one out for their mothers. Smiles were not in short supply, for both board members and young learners!
Northwestern Settlement’s ECE program focuses on getting children school-ready through a holistic, “Creative Curriculum” program that cultivates cognitive, linguistic, and social skills through a balance of learning and play. This event is one example of the different activities ECE learners participate in every day.
Through its fundraising and philanthropic activities, the Settlement’s all-volunteer North Shore Board works to support the Settlement’s many programs, particularly the House in the Wood summer camp, a transformative experience for hundreds of Chicago youth every year.
