About Us

History

For over 130 years, Northwestern University Settlement House has been a cornerstone of community support in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood, offering dynamic programs in education and social services. Our mission? To break the cycle of generational poverty by empowering children and families at every stage of life.

In 2008, we took a bold step forward by launching a contract grammar school, which transformed into Rowe Elementary School in 2009, thanks to the generous support of the John Rowe family and Exelon Corporation. Now serving grades K-8, Rowe is dedicated to equipping its students for future success, with many alumni going on to thrive in some of Chicago’s most prestigious high schools. Let us inspire your child on their journey today!
